On June 5, 2021 just before 8:00 p.m.members from the Bancroft Detachment responded to reports of a 22 year old female from Scarborough that went missing in the water on Papineau Lake, Municipality of Hastings Highlands.

"I will not be answering any further questions today to give time for the family to grieve", Sanchuk said.

Police have found the 8 year old boy, deceased in the waters of Lake Erie this afternoon.

The boy's body was found about 10 metres off the shore in the town, a popular destination for beachgoers across Norfolk County.

The identity of the boy will not be released until next of kin are notified, according to Sanchuk.

Sanchuk thanked all of the first-responders and rescue teams that searched for the missing boy. He also thanked the residents of Turkey Point who provided comfort and assistance to the grieving family.

They said the boy had been swimming in the waters after abandoning a floating raft. He attempted to swim back to shore, but his family members had been unable to find him. The underwater search and recovery unit is assisting with the investigation.

"It's an eerie feeling", Simon said.
