India reports 114460 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 2 months

Ontario's active COVID-19 caseload is now 8,368, down from 13,371 last week.

India reported 114,460 new COVID-19 cases, 189,232 discharges, and 2,677 deaths in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Health Ministry on Sunday.

India's overall tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,88,09,339 with 14,77,799 active cases and 3,46,759 deaths so far.

It's only the second time in the last week that fewer than 700 new infections have been reported as the rolling seven-day average of new cases falls below 800 for the first time since October 23. On April 596,982 cases were reported. Since then, the new COVID cases rose exponentially and reached their peak at over 4.5 lakh in May starting. There has been a steady continuous increase in the national recovery rate with 93.38% reported today.

India has the world's second-largest number of coronavirus infections after the United States with total cases of 28.8 million, according to health ministry data.

The province administered 158,393 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday.

Total fatalities hit 344,082 since the start of the pandemic in the country.

There were three new deaths reported Saturday, bringing the toll to 577. Also, 20,36,311 tests were conducted on June 5 taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 36,47,46,522, while the daily positivity has further declined to 5.62%.

Declining case counts and hospitalizations in recent weeks has prompted to the province to take a look at reopening patios and shuttered businesses a little earlier than expected.
