Cheney said, "I'm going to make another point". "We can not do that if we enable a lie", she said.

"I am not, Bret", Cheney told Baier, responding to his question about whether she is vying for the 2024 nomination. "What I think is really important is that we make sure that the former president, because we know what he is capable of ... and because we know how important it is for us to be able to advance Republican ideals, that we make sure that he never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office".

She also said that her focus is on stopping Biden, but that Trump's legacy makes that hard.

Republican U.S. Representative Chip Roy, a two-term conservative from Texas, said on Thursday he intends to run for the No. 3 House of Representatives Republican leadership job to replace Liz Cheney, who on Wednesday was sacked from the post. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.) is running against her.

A poll from May found that 86% of Fox News viewers believe the election was stolen. Dominion Voting Systems filed a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox, arguing that it falsely claimed the company rigged the election. "I support Elise, by far, over Chip!"

Baier said, "We have said that numerous times".

Cheney said, "Bret, I'm going to answer your question".

Baier interrupted her and pushed her on why her crusade was representing voters in Wyoming when Cheney zeroed in on Fox News.

Cheney shot back, "Bret, you are doing the interview".

Cheney continued to press her point on Thursday: "We need to make sure that the American people recognize and understand that the election wasn't stolen, that we shouldn't perpetuate the big lie, and that there is real danger".

The pair began to speak over each other as Cheney defended her comments and Baier defended his network and show.

"What we're talking about, these issues of the Constitution and the rule of law, should be above politics", Cheney replied. I have worked in countries around the world where we don't have peaceful transition of power.

"I think if you look at where we've been since the election since Jan.6, we've had a real focus on, making sure people understand that the Biden policies are risky", she explained.

Trump has made a barrage of baseless claims that the 2020 election was "stolen" from him.

Cheney survived a previous bid to remove her from leadership in February by a 145-61 secret ballot vote.

Cheney was toppled from the Republican Conference leadership job after voting in January to impeach Trump on a charge of inciting an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
