She said the [Pfizer] vaccine was 95 effective at reducing symptoms of the virus.

"All of the signs here pointing very much to the fact that this was a border worker who did work in an environment where they were coming into contact with the planes that are used to transport people from red zones".

"With 60,000 Kiwis living on the Gold Coast and the region rating highly on travel wish lists of New Zealand residents, we expect these services to be extremely popular in both directions", Mr Mills said.

"More information will be provided later today and this case will be included in tomorrow's totals", the statement said.

The total number of active cases reported in New Zealand today is 86.

The latest historical case had arrived from Somalia on March 28 via the United Arab Emirates. People in managed isolation are now tested within 24 hours of arrival, on day three and day 12.

There is one historical case to report since yesterday - a recent returnee who is considered recovered.
