Almost 14 lakh beneficiaries have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country, including 3,47,058 in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Saturday.

The new milestone, reported Sunday by Johns Hopkins University, is a grim reminder of the coronavirus' wide reach in the US, which has seen far more confirmed cases and deaths than any other country in the world.

It added that 28 states and Union territories in the country have less than 5,000 active coronavirus cases each and their recovery rate is above the national average.

According to the federal health ministry, the constant increase in recoveries has ensured the reduction in actual caseload and now, the total positive cases in the country are 1.74 percent.

"What the CDC is saying, sometimes the situation is stressed where it's very hard to be exactly on time", Dr. Anthony Fauci said during an appearance Friday on CNN's "New Day".

The number of new cases in the US has shown signs of slowing recently, with an average of 176,000 reported daily in the past week, down from 244,000 in early January. India has recorded the second most cases, with about 10.7 million.

During the last 24 hours, 152 deaths were reported across the country.

According to data released by the Ministry, seven States/Union Territories account for 79.35% of the 155 case fatalities reported in the past 24 hours. "Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties of 50. Kerala follows with 19".

The total death toll has touched 1,53,339.

According to the health ministry, the number of recovered patients has overtaken active cases by more than 55 times.

Health officials said new daily cases continue to trend downwards with people remaining vigilant and resorting to appropriate behavior of wearing masks and washing hands. This translates to a ratio of 2.5 cases per 1 million shots. The two vaccines which have been given emergency use approval include the vaccine developed by Oxford University and AStraZeneca which has been domestically manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) and an indigenous vaccine developed by Hyderadad based Bharat BIotech in close collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
