Additionally, the new design is said to be "bubblier" and "bouncier".

"Rethinking the visual design for something like Search is really complex", Google designer Aileen Cheng said in today's announcement. "We chose to create a new edge-to-edge results design and to minimize the use of shadows, making it easier to immediately see what you're looking for", said Cheng.

Aileen Cheng, who led the redesign of Google search for mobile devices in a blog said that the team wanted to take a step back to "simplify a bit so people could find what they are looking for faster and more easily". The new design also puts more information higher up the page that reduces some visual clutter, to allow users to access quick information without forcing them to scroll down too far.

Google has redesigned the Search app for both iOS and Android. The update also includes more of Google's own font, which already shows up in Android and Gmail, among other Google products More visual space on Search "We made a decision to create a new edge-to-edge results design and to minimise the use of shadows, making it easier to immediately see what you're looking for", says Chang. It's also possible Google already has me on the updated UI and I don't even know it.

The blog explains there are five major aspects of the redesign including bringing information into focus, making text easier to read, creating more breathing room, using colour to highlight what's important, and leaning into the "Googley" feeling.

The first priority of the new interface will be to make it simpler than ever, and deliver to users what they are looking for. Cheng explains that the team kept a clean background for the images and content but used colour to bring focus to important information.

Other changes include: a "new edge-to-edge results design", "centering content and images against a clean background", and "rounded icons and imagery". The company says that the redesigned Google logo has a lot of roundness to it. "That form is already so much a part of our DNA. Just look at the Search bar, or the magnifying glass". That, we'd imagine, is part of the concept of keeping Search looking "Googley". "And when we redesign something, we want to bring that familiarity and approachability with us, too".
