Microsoft gives workers option of working at home permanently

Under this, the company has said employees will be allowed to work from home freely for less than 50% of their working week or, as an alternative, they may opt for permanent remote work with the permission of their manager.

Not all employees will be able to take advantage of the new policy, however, including those who work in Microsoft's hardware labs, data centres an in-person training.

In a public blog post later in the day, Hogan said the company views employees spending less than 50 percent of their time working from home as "standard", but wasn't abandoning office work entirely.

"For others, whose work can be done entirely remote, there are options to relocate â€" even internationally â€" if approved.

Working at Microsoft might be quite fulfilling now for those hoping to continue work-from-home (WFH) forever now.

'We continue to prioritize the health of our employees and follow local government guidance, ' Amazon said in a statement.

'We've been very thoughtful in how we've approached this from the time we were one of the first companies to move to a work-from-home model, ' a Twitter spokesperson said at the time. It also says that this includes 34pc of workers who only recently started working from home as a result of the pandemic.

In response to a request for comment from CRN on Friday, Microsoft confirmed there are new guidelines in place around remote work at Microsoft.

Allowing employees at these sorts of tech-meccas to work from home might help.

Yesterday, the company announced that it told staff the option of working from home permanently with manager approval. After almost a year of working from home, that's understandable. "We will offer as much flexibility as possible to support individual workstyles, while balancing business needs, and ensuring we live our culture". Facebook, too, is extending its work-from-home orders until next summer, but hasn't made any moves to let its employees keep on remotely working past that. For now, returning to many of our offices around the world is still optional for employees, except for essential onsite roles.

Microsoft said staff will be allowed to relocate within the country where they work with approval, or may seek to relocate internationally if remote working is viable from overseas in their role.

At The Wall Street Journal CEO Council on Tuesday, Nadella said that online meetings can make employees exhausted, according to Republic World.

Work location (the geographic location where you work, e.g. city and country): Similarly the guidance is there for managers and employees to discuss and address considerations such as role requirements, personal tax, salary, expenses, etc.
