U.S. President Donald Trump voted in his new home state of Florida on Saturday, casting his ballot for his re-election at a public library across the street from one of his golf clubs.

The President wore a mask while voting, but he took it off as he approached reporters afterward in the building.

"It was a very secure vote, much more secure than when you send in a ballot".

The official voting day is 3 November.

While many have states rushed to expand voting by mail this spring due to the pandemic, Democrats have started encouraging voters to cast ballots early and in person, if possible, as the prospect of delayed tabulations and postal service slowdowns loom. He used to vote in NY but changed his residency to Florida past year.

Trump had requested an absentee ballot but chose to vote in person. "When you send in your ballot, it could never be secure like that", the President said.

Trump, who has regularly condemned mail-in voting without evidence as prone to fraud, even though experts say it is as safe as any other method, voted by mail in two elections since he switched his address to Florida: a presidential primary in March and a state election in August.

Mr Biden said Mr Trump had given up on containing the virus, while Mr Trump accused his rival of overstating the health crisis to scare Americans into voting for him. Florida is a key battleground in this year's election, and both campaigns have put a lot of resources into the state.

After voting, President Trump was scheduled to depart Florida for rallies Saturday in North Carolina and Ohio.

Biden will hold drive-in rallies in Bucks County north of Philadelphia and Luzerne County near his birthplace of Scranton, where he will be joined by rocker Jon Bon Jovi.
