Oneonta Native and Music Legend Jerry Jeff Walker Dies

Kix Brooks, Jason Isbell and more country artists are among the many who turned to social media on Saturday (Oct. 24) to honor Jerry Jeff Walker, who died on Friday (Oct. 23) at the age of 78.

Born Ronald Clyde Crosby on March 16, 1942 in Oneonta, N.Y., Walker was brought up in a well-known musical family.

In 2008, he was named to the Oneonta Alumni Association's Wall of Fame.

Austin City Limits, Texas Monthly, legendary newsman Dan Rather, former President Bill Clinton and many more were among those who shared recollections or tributes after the news of Walker's death. In addition to writing and recording the modern classic "Mr. Bojangles", Walker is often celebrated for his 1973 landmark album, Viva!

Jerry Jeff Walker is survived by his wife and manager Susan, daughter Jessie Jane, and son and fellow musician Django Walker.
