Lawmakers Call for Congressional Approval on Russia Sanctions

If "eroding trust" was truly the reason for Flynn's removal, President Trump should resign for failing to inform Pence that Flynn misled him until last Thursday, weeks after Trump was informed.

As Goldsmith says in his post, this is only the latest White House firestorm involving McGahn.

Referring to Flynn's resignation during Thursday's White House news conference, Trump said what his ousted national security adviser did "wasn't wrong", adding that he was "not happy" about how information about Flynn's contacts with the Russians was relayed to Pence.

What's known is that Flynn spoke with Sergey Kislyak, Russia's ambassador to the United States, on December 29, 2016, the same day President Barack Obama leveled sanctions against Russia for its alleged hacking during the USA presidential election campaign.

"I wish him the best", Trump said.

Members of US president Donald Trump's campaign team and others affiliated with the then-candidate talked with Russian intelligence in the year leading up to the USA presidential election, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

"It's unimaginable that the White House general counsel would sit on it [and] not tell anybody else in the White House", David Gergen, who worked in the Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Clinton administrations, said during a Monday interview on CNN.

Senate leaders say it now will expand that investigation to include communication by Flynn and other Trump aides with Russian officials during the presidential campaign and transition period.

"This. Is. Not. Normal." said Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, insisting "Trump owes Americans a full account" of his administration's dealings with Moscow before and after the 2016 election. "I've not heard that anyone is leaving".

"The leaks are absolutely real", he said.

Trump named retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg as acting national security adviser.

In an interview with the Federal Bureau of Investigation last month, Flynn had denied speaking to the Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, about USA sanctions against Russia. I've done nothing for Russian Federation.

They said the release of classified information could have "grave effects on national security".

"He needs to enact his campaign platform, he said everything in his campaign platform: restore relations with Russian Federation and China and fight terrorism. I'm just telling you you're dishonest people". Flynn had earlier misled the Vice President on the topic of the conversation, according to media reports. "Crimea is Russian territory", Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday, reaffirming Moscow's long-standing position that the issue is permanently closed. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) called it "extraordinary" that the USA "intelligence services seem to be at war" with the president. "I don't know that we're going to make a deal".

We've said it before and we'll say it again: there MUST be an investigation by an independent, bipartisan commission of Russia's ties to Donald Trump and his associates and that nation's interference in our elections. I don't know. We might. "They're put out by people either in agencies - I think you'll see it stopping because now we have our people in".

Demand that Congress and the Justice Department get to the bottom of why an American president would defend a murderous Russian autocrat by putting the United States on the same low moral plane, saying, "Our country does plenty of killing, too".
